Price Returns for Thrilling 2nd Edition Following Double Bronze Performance at Eventing World Championship
Baltimore, Maryland – September 28, 2022, – New Zealand’s two-time Olympic veteran Tim Price has joined the all-star list of entries set to compete at the MARS Maryland 5 Star at Fair Hill Presented by Brown Advisory. Fresh off his double Bronze Medal performance at the 2022 Eventing World Championship in Pratoni, Italy, Price is looking to move up from his #3 spot on the FEI Eventing World Athlete Rankings, with just one point between him and World #2 Piggy March (GBR).
The MARS Maryland 5 Star at Fair Hill presented by Brown Advisory returns to the Fair Hill Special Event Zone in Cecil County, MD, October 13-16. One of only two 5 Star level equestrian events of its kind in the United States and just the seventh worldwide, the event made a spectacular debut last year, welcoming a total of 20,886 spectators and 184 competitors that featured four of the top eight eventers in the world. The event’s prestigious 5 Star (CCI5*-L) designation is the pinnacle of the Olympic sport of Eventing, often described as an equestrian triathlon.
In addition to the 5 Star competition (CCI5*-L), the event also features a 3 Star competition (CCI3*-L), which serves as the USEF CCI3*-L Eventing National Championship, and The Dutta Corp. USEA Young Event Horse East Coast Championships presented by Dubarry of Ireland. The four days of eventing competition feature Dressage (Thu-Fri), Cross-Country (Sat) showcasing Ian Stark-designed courses, and Show Jumping (Sun).
Following his third-place finish at the inaugural Maryland 5 Star at Fair Hill last year, Price will rejoin his fellow podium finisher and previously announced entry, World #1 Oliver Townend (GBR), who finished second last year. Of course, both their eyes are on the top spot for this year’s event.
Also joining Price and Townend in this year’s event is the entire U.S. World Championship Silver Medal team from Pratoni:
-
- Will Coleman – 2012 Olympic veteran ranked #8 in the world
- Boyd Martin – three-time Olympic veteran ranked #7 in the world; inaugural Maryland 5 Star at Fair Hill winner
- Lauren Nicholson – 2016 Olympic veteran ranked #17 in the world
- Tamie Smith – 2021 Olympic veteran ranked #29 in the world

Other top U.S. riders vying for the podium are 2021 Olympic veteran Doug Payne (World #15), Buck Davidson (#23), seven-time Olympic veteran Philip Dutton (#24), Liz Halliday-Sharp (#26) and Jennie Brannigan (#27). Additional international stars on the entry list include Leslie Law (#34), a two-time British Olympic veteran who won individual Gold in 2004; 2016 Olympic veteran Astier Nicolas of France (#38); and Great Britain’s Harry Meade (#51).
